Drupal is an open source content management platform powering millions of websites and applications. It’s built, used, and supported by an active and diverse community of people around the world.

Here is the big picture in a really small nutshell: Drupal is a content management system (which means a database-driven website) which is written in PHP and runs on MySQL. Watch this video.

Where to begin?  If you are completely new to Drupal, the site documentation is an outstanding place to begin.  If you have already done some work in PHP/MySQL content management systems, the Drupal Cheat Sheet is a really solid overview.

This website makes a few assumptions about teaching you the basic ins and outs of setting up and using Drupal.  The two major ones are that you, the audience member, are a fluent speaker of English and that you are using a Macintosh computer.  No prejudice on either count, just that this site began as a personal exercise to store information for myself as I learned my way through Drupal.  Every post on this site (after this one) also assumes a little command-line knowledge, so if you find yourself lacking, you may want to begin with the UNIX basics article.
